“FUN AND RESPECT FOR INTELLIGENCE”
REVIEW, BÁRBARA HELIODORA, JORNAL O GLOBO, (01/10/08)
“The show Alessandra Colasanti is presenting at Espaço Rogério Cardoso of Casa de Cultura Laura Alvim, “Anticlássico – Uma Desconferência e o enigma vazio” (Anti-classic – a De-conference and the empty enigma” can definitely be classified as the Hare-brained samba of intellectuals (or pseudo). The confusing and anachronistic memories of the Ballerina in Red indicate she read voraciously when she worked at the Library of Alexandria, and has not lost a single opportunity to get to know who’s who in the world ever since. The script, Alessandra’s own, is a precious parody of the style and body language of those who, with great pomposity and a great deal of jargon, sound off, mostly about what they do not know. The artistic and sexual exploits of the ballerina make up a delightfully mad journey through the history of Western culture, by means of a sort of verbal magic carpet which is further enriched by the critical tone of self-criticism and fairness of the time used for each episode or moment of memory.
Set, light and music integrate the production.
The staging of Natalia Lana is simple but with a plethora of details, as numerous as the memories and adventures, everything attuned to the desired atmosphere, a perfect portrait of the ballerina’s mind. The lighting by Tomás Ribas contributes to the idea of the variety and insanity of the whole, with music direction by Mark and Lucas Rodrigo Marçal, very suitable to the entire ensemble.
Everything depends, however, on the interpretation of playwright/director Alessandra Colasanti, who makes great use of her intimacy with the literary and artistic world, as well as the authentic and false elements that come with it. The way she speaks, the hesitation, the gestures… she creates the character with great accuracy, and enjoys every ambiguity, every double-meaning, but without exaggeration so as to take advantage of the humor in the line.
With João Velho as a punk concert performer, “Anticlássico” is a show that is not only fun but has the courtesy of treating the intelligence of the audience well. This kind of show, which brings fun in a civilized fashion, is not so common. “(Barbara Heliodora)
